Coalition for Tactical Medicine (CTM) Scholarship Overview

The CTM scholarship will support the advancement of training and education for civilian and military tactical medical professionals, tactical medical first responders and non-medical first responders. Upon the completion of training and education courses attendees will be further equipped to save their own lives as well as the lives of others. Participants will be encouraged to share their knowledge and contribute to the advancement of others in the field of tactical medicine and "care under fire." 

  1. The Coalition for Tactical Medicine Scholarship will fund basic and advanced tactical medical training and education and will be available to all military branch operations, non-medical civilian first-responders and tactical first-responders crucial in "care under fire" situations. Also, related personnel who may have affiliation with military, governmental, municipal and law enforcement agencies or who represent a sector of developing need (i.e. educators) ….
  2. Training and or education will be provided by institutions approved by the CTM Scholarship Selection Committee (CTMSSC) that follow established, explicit education and training guidelines, especially those involving Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC). 

  3. All scholarships are subject to approval by the CTM Selection Committee and all training venues will be subject to curriculum review and approval.  In the event that resources are available and the applicant applies for a non-approved program of instruction, a substitute program of instruction will be proposed and funded.
  4. The scholarships will not exceed $5000.00 per applicant and $50,000 per group and may be used for travel to and from the training location and for meals; awards, however, may be less.
  5. Scholarship funds will be paid to the training and/or education institution. Individual reimbursement of travel, hotel and meals will be made following successful completion of the course. Recipients will need to submit original invoices for payment to the Coalition for Tactical Medicine.
  6. Air travel reimbursements will be limited to coach travel with a four week notice or greater for one flight to and one flight from destination location; hotel reimbursements will not exceed the GSA schedule for government travel unless special circumstances exist and written exception is given by CTM prior to booking; rental vehicles will be approved based on individual circumstances and reimbursements are limited to compact vehicles and fuel costs only.
  7.   8. Once the scholarship has been awarded, the applicant may not reapply for additional scholarships within one year of satisfactory completion.

Eligibility

  1. The applicant must present in writing a compelling case for training and outline past and present professional duties and training, how they expect the training to benefit themselves or others, and how they might share this new knowledge.
  2. Training course can cover any CTMSSC approved curriculum determined to enhance lifesaving capabilities at an individual, local, state, or federal level.
  3. Applicant must have shown academic promise and excel in past performance.
  4. Two recommendations must accompany the application.

Selection of Applicants

  1. A scholarship selection committee of three or more disinterested persons shall select winners and alternates for scholarships.

  2. The CTM Scholarship Selection Committee will be comprised of military and civilian tactical medical leaders and specific subject matter experts (SMEs) including Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) personnel familiar with necessary skills and growing/changing needs of the tactical medical and non-medical provider community. 

  3. CTM Scholarship recipients will be selected based on application review and the CTM SSC will consider merit and/or financial needs. Specific requests made to CTM by military battalion commanders, police chiefs, law enforcement commanders, etc., will also be considered.

The CTMSSC will take into account the CTM mission and how the recipient(s) might further CTM’s goals including sharing the message of TCCC.  The committee will also consider urgent/pressing needs requests such as those addressing an upcoming oversees deployment or special mission, etc.
